Oct 10 Sto-Rox Thrives Together: Anti-Violence Training and Community Project

Focus On Renewal is partnering with the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Social Work for Sto-Rox Thrives, an anti-violence and community project. The project will bring together community residents from our Sto-Rox Community for a series of 9 training sessions that will culminate in a funded community project that participants co-design. Recruiting for this project is happening now through Thursday, October 17.
The training program consists of nine 2 ½ hour sessions where participants will:
- Practice strategies for building relationships with their neighbors;
- Learn restorative practices for intervening to prevent violence;
- Learn about and improve community supports and resources for youth and adults;
- Learn about and discuss results from a Community Survey; and
- Work together to develop ideas for a community project to be completed after the training sessions are over.
Training sessions will take place at Focus On Renewal’s Father Ryan Arts Center from 5:30pm until 8pm every Thursday (except October 31 and November 28) from October 10 through December 19 and will include instruction, group activities and exercises, and food and beverages. Participants can earn up to $300 for attending all sessions, as well as a Certificate of Completion.
